How do I configure my mouse settings in Windows Control Panel?

Step 1: Open the Control Panel.

To open the Control Panel in Windows, right-click on the Start menu and select Control Panel. Alternatively, you can type “control panel” in the search bar at the bottom left of your desktop and click the top result.

Step 2: Select Mouse.

In the Control Panel window, you should see several icons representing different settings and options. To open the settings for your mouse, click on the Mouse icon.

Step 3: Configure your mouse settings.

The Mouse Properties window will open. On the first tab, Devices, you can review information about your mouse and update its driver if needed. You can also access the other tabs in the window to change settings like selecting your preferred cursor speed, adjusting the double-click speed, and enabling/disabling touchpad gestures. On the Pointer Options tab, you can choose a custom mouse pointer scheme, and customize the look of individual elements like arrows and link pointers, as well as change the size of each.

Step 4: Adjust the Buttons tab.

The Buttons tab controls the behavior of your mouse buttons. You can reverse the scroll wheel setting, swap the primary and secondary buttons, and enable or disable the wheel button.

Step 5: Make Wheel tab adjustments.

The Wheel tab allows you to adjust settings related to the scroll wheel. You can set the number of lines to scroll with each movement of the wheel and set the wheel to automatically scroll when you move the cursor near the edge of the window. You can also activate the Universal Scrolling feature, which gives you the ability to use the wheel to scroll through windows, documents, and webpages.

Step 6: Save your changes.

Once you’ve finished adjusting your mouse settings, click the Apply button at the bottom of the window to save your changes, then click OK to exit the Mouse Properties window. Your new settings will take effect immediately.
