How do miners verify transactions on the blockchain?

Miners use a special system of computers to solve complex mathematical equations that are associated with each transaction in the blockchain. The equations are part of the algorithm that keeps the blockchain secure, and by solving them miners compete to add blocks of transactions to the blockchain. When a miner solves the equation for a particular transaction, they confirm it and earn a reward for doing so. The transactions are then added to a new block and the miner is rewarded with cryptocurrency.
