How can I defragment my hard drive to improve computer speed?

Windows users:

1. Press the Windows key and type in “Defragment”.
2. Select the “Defragment and Optimize Drives” option.
3. Select the drive you wish to defragment from the list of available drives, then click on “Optimize”.
4. Click on the “Analyze” button to determine if the drive needs to be defragmented. If it does, click on the “Defragment” button.
5. Allow the defragmentation process to complete. Depending on the size of the drive and amount of fragmentation, this could take several hours to complete.

Mac users:
1. Open a new Finder window.
2. Select Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility.
3. In the left-hand column, select the hard drive you wish to defragment.
4. Click the “First Aid” tab.
5. Select the “Repair Disk Permissions” button, then click “Run” to start the repair process.
6. Select the “Repair Disk” button and then click “Run” to start the repair process.
7. Allow the repair and optimization processes to complete. Depending on the size of the drive and amount of fragmentation, this could take several hours to complete.
