Adjusting sound settings in Windows 10

Windows 10 gives you full control over the sound settings on your computer. You can adjust the sound output for different hardware, like headphones and speakers, as well as enabling special sound effects and configuring sound input devices.

Adjust sound output device

1. Right-click the speaker icon in your taskbar.
2. Select “Playback Devices” from the context menu.
3. Choose the desired device from the list of available devices.
4. Click the “Set Default” button at the bottom of the window to set the chosen device as the default output device.

Configure sound settings

1. Right-click the speaker icon in your taskbar.
2. Select “Open Sound Settings” from the context menu.
3. Click “App volume and device preferences”. This will open a window where you can adjust the volume levels for each app.
4. In the “Output” section you can control the volume, as well as balance and bass/treble levels.
5. In the “Input” section you can configure the microphone, including setting the microphone boost level.

3. Click “Sound Control Panel”.
4. Select the “Spatial Sound” tab.
5. Enable “Windows Sonic for Headphones” or “Dolby Atmos for Headphones”.
6. Click “Apply” to save your changes.

Manage Playback and Recording Devices

1. Right-click the speaker icon in your taskbar.
2. Select “Sound Control Panel”.
3. Click “Manage audio devices” to open the Audio Devices window.
4. In this window you can activate, deactivate and configure playback and recording devices.
5. To enable a device, select it in the list, then click “Enable”.
6. To adjust settings for the device, click “Properties”.
7. To set a device as the default playback or recording device, select it and click “Set Default”.
8. Click “OK” to save your changes.
