How do I change my default printer settings?

The vast majority of modern printers support the setting of a default printer. This means that you can set a specific printer as the one that will automatically be used when you attempt to print from a program or document. You may want to change your default printer if you are using multiple printers, if your existing default printer is no longer working correctly, or if you would like to switch to a different type of printer.

The process for changing your default printer settings will depend on whether you are using a Windows or Mac computer.

Windows

If you are using a Windows computer, then you can follow these steps to change your default printer:

1. Open the Control Panel. To do this, type “Control Panel” into the search bar at the bottom of your screen, and then click the link when it appears in the search results.

2. In the Control Panel, select “View Devices and Printers” under the Hardware and Sound section.

3. Right-click the printer you would like to set as your default, and then select “Set as Default Printer” from the options that appear.

4. The printer should now be set as your default.

Mac

If you are using a Mac computer, then you can follow these steps to change your default printer:

1. Click the Apple logo at the top left of your screen, and then select “System Preferences” from the menu that appears.

2. In System Preferences, select “Printers and Scanners”.

3. Select the printer you would like to set as your default from the list of printers that appears.

4. Mark the checkbox next to “Set as Default Printer”, and then click “OK” to confirm the change.

The printer should now be set as your default.

It is also possible to set a default printer through the Settings menu in some programs. For example, you may be able to select a default printer through the printing options available in Microsoft Word or Adobe Acrobat.

Once you have set a default printer, it will become the default setting whenever you attempt to print from any program or document. You may still be able to choose other printers when printing documents; however, the default printer you set will always be selected by default.
