How do I identify which sound card I have installed?

To find out which sound card you have installed on your computer, you will need to use either Windows Device Manager or your computer’s BIOS.

Using Windows Device Manager

1. Press the Windows + R keys simultaneously to open the Run dialog box.

2. In the dialog box, type in “devmgmt.msc” and press enter. This will open the Device Manager.

3. In the Device Manager window, expand the “Sound, video and game controllers” section by clicking on the arrow next to it.

4. Look for any entries that have “sound card” or “audio device” listed next to them. The name of the sound card will be mentioned here.

5. If you need more information about the sound card, right-click on it and select the “Properties” option. This will open a Properties window with more details about the sound card, including its manufacturer and model number.

Using your computer’s BIOS

1. Power on your computer and wait till the system boots up.

2. Next, you will need to enter your computer’s BIOS setup. To do this, look for a message displayed onscreen when the computer is starting up. It will usually tell you what key you need to press to enter the BIOS setup (commonly Delete, F2 or F12).

3. Once you’ve entered the BIOS setup, look for an option called “ integrated peripherals” or “Onboard Devices”.

4. Select this option and look for an entry labelled “Audio”. The associated value should give you the name of the sound card.

5. Save the settings and exit the BIOS setup. Your computer will restart and you can now use the information from the BIOS to identify your sound card.
