How do I customize the appearance of my desktop?

There are several different ways to customize the appearance of your desktop, depending on your operating system. Below we will look at how to customize on Windows and MacOS.

Customizing On Windows:

1) Changing The Wallpaper: One of the easiest ways to change the look of your desktop is to change the wallpaper — the image shown behind all of the icons. To do this, right click anywhere on the desktop and select “Personalise” and then “Desktop Background.” This will open a window with many different options for wallpapers. Choose a wallpaper that fits your taste and click “save changes”.

2) Changing The Screen Saver: Another way to alter the look of your desktop is to change the screen saver setting. To do this, go to the Control Panel, then click on “Appearance and Personalization,” and then select “Change Screen Saver”. From there, you can select from the many options shown to find one that you like. Once you have selected your preference, hit “apply” and it will be saved.

3) Adding Widgets and Gadgets: Widgets and gadgets are small programs which can be added to your desktop so that you can access them quickly. An example of such a program is a weather application that shows you the weather in your area. To add such programs to your desktop, go to the Windows sidebar, and click on “Add Gadgets”. From here, you can browse through a variety of widgets and gadgets and select the ones you’d like to add.

4) Custom Icons: You can also customize the look of your desktop by changing the icons for each file and folder. To do this, right click on the icon and select “properties”. From the window that opens select the “Shortcut” tab and then click “change icon”. You can then browse and find custom icons, or choose to use a preset image. After selecting your image and clicking “OK,” the icon will change.

Customizing On MacOS:

1) Changing The Desktop Image: You can change the wallpaper of your Mac’s desktop similarly to how we did it in Windows. To do this, go to System Preferences, then click on “Desktop and Screen Saver”, and then select “desktop”. Here, you can choose from the many different images that are provided, or select one of your own.

2) Changing The Dock Appearance: Another way to customize the look of your Mac is to change how the dock looks. To do this, go to System Preferences, then select “Dock”, and then select “Customize”. From here, you can change the size and position of the dock, as well as the way it looks.

3) Customizing The Menu Bar: You can also customize the appearance of the menu bar at the top of your screen. To do this, go to System Preferences, then select “User & Groups” and then ” Menus”. From here, you can select which items appear in the menu bar and in what order.

4) Customizing The Icons: Similarly to Windows, you can also customize the icons of each file and folder on your Mac. To do this, right click on the file or folder, go to “Get Info”, and then “Icon”. From here, you can select a custom icon, or use one of the provided presets.

By following these steps, you can easily customize the appearance of your desktop and make your workspace more personalised to match your theme and tastes. The possibilities are endless, and with some creativity, you can create a unique look that you enjoy looking at.
